Pak foreign reserves rose to $9.497bln

Islamabad: Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves rose to $9.497 billion in the week ending October 25 compared to $9.230 billion in the previous week, the State Bank of Pakistan.

Remittances from Pakistanis abroad rose 9 per cent to $3.9 billion in July-Sept, the first three months of the 2013/14 fiscal year, from $3.6 billion in the same period last year.

The fiscal year runs from July to June.

Highly-Anticipated 2015 Ford Mustang Design Leaked

Ford plans to celebrate the Mustang's 50th birthday with a new version of the pony car, redesigned for the global market. Car and Driver Magazine, however, has taken the wind out of Ford's sails. The publication leaked an image of the 2015 Mustang ahead of its official release date.

It's not entirely clear whether the image is the actual Mustang or a very close approximation to the production car put together by extrapolating design hints from past concepts and spy shots. Either way, readers can explore a 360-degree image of what is "almost definitely" the 2015 Mustang at Car and Driver's website.

The new Mustang looks ready for the world stage, with globally attractive styling and more efficient engine options to appeal to European consumers and emissions standards. It will reportedly come with a new 2.4-liter turbocharged engine that will allow it to meet strict Eurozone fuel efficiency requirements, while maintaining the performance numbers consumers expect from a muscle car.

The car will also eventually sport the jointly developed Ford-General Motors 10-speed automatic transmission as an option, as well as a large array of performance drivetrains.

The Mustang first debuted at the 1964 New York World's Fair and saw instant success. While this Mustang won't be released until the car's actual 50th birthday on April 17, 2014, it has been so highly anticipated that stories and rumors about its looks and features have been swirling for months.

'No contact' yet over talks, says Pakistani Taliban

MIRANSHAH: The Pakistani Taliban said Friday they have had "no contact" with the government, a day after officials said a process to initiate peace talks had been started.

The government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been edging towards peace talks to end the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan's (TTP) bloody six-year struggle against the state, which has left thousands dead.

Last month Sharif won the backing of the main political parties to go ahead with dialogue, and the powerful army chief has voiced his support.

Officials said Thursday that the "process of dialogue" had started but no formal talks had taken place yet.

Shahidullah Shahid, the main spokesman for the TTP told AFP on Friday that there had been no overtures.

"No one has yet contacted us. The government is making announcements only by media, no peace talks have yet been started," Shahid said.

"The beginning of peace talks means sitting at a table and discussing

issues, no such thing has yet happened."

After the political parties gave their backing to talks, the TTP issued a list of preconditions including the release of all its members held in

Pakistani jails and the withdrawal of troops from the tribal areas along the Afghan border, where the militants have hideouts.

Shahid on Friday reiterated these demands and said the government must

fulfil them to prove they are serious about talks.

Privilege motion moved against Chaudhry Nisar in Senate

ISLAMABAD: The members of opposition parties in the Senate on Friday submitted a privilege motion against Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Geo News reported.

Speaking to media outside the parliament here, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Raza Rabbani said the Senate had been made hostage.

Rabbani said opposition was not taken into confidence over peace talks with Taliban.

The row between the government and opposition has intensified in the Senate over the statistics provided by Chaudhry Nisar on terrorism.

The opposition termed the statistics incorrect regarding deaths in terrorism related incidents and asked the interior minister to withdraw his statement, however, the latter refused to do so.

Following this, the opposition senators not only boycotted the Senate proceedings but also submitted the privilege motion

US drone kills four in North Waziristan

PESHAWAR: A US drone fired missiles at a residential compound in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal region near Afghan border, ,killing at least four people, sources said on Friday.

The sources said that the attack took place in Danday Darpa Khel near Miranshah, main town of North Waziristan Agency.

They said that locals were trying to retrieve dead and injured from the debris of the house. Identities of the dead and injured were yet to be known.

It was the second drone attack since Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif paid a visit to the United States, where he demanded US President Barack Obama to stop the attacks.

Pakistan has long been opposing CIA-operated drone attacks in the tribal region dubbing them as violation if its territorial integrity.
