Pakistan will not accept anything impinging on sovereignty: Nawaz

LONDON: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said that anything which hurts Pakistan’s sovereignty will not be accepted.

Talking to media persons, he said that his current visit to the United Kingdom was bearing fruit due to the growing stronger bilateral ties.

He said Pak-UK ties were on the high wave, growing stronger with each passing day. The UK accorded high importance to its ties with Pakistan, he added.

Recalling words of UK Premier David Cameron during his last visit to Pakistan, he said that every Pakistani should remember thses words in which he had declared enemies of Pakistan as common enemies of both countries.

“Friends of Pakistan are friends of Britain and enemies of Pakistan are enemies of Britain,” such words by the UK Premier proved his close affinity with the people of Pakistan, he added.

About meetings with UK counterpart, UK Foreign and Home Ministers, he said that they had discussed an array of issues including the Kashmir issue.

The UK was major contributor to education sector in Pakistan and it could also help in counter-terror force with its resources, he added.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said “In my US visit, I had also raised the issue that we wanted trade not aid.”

About trilateral meeting in the UK, he said it was the first occasion for him after assuming the office that he had meeting with Afghan President and UK Premier.

“In the meeting, all issues were discussed - how peace can be restored in Afghanistan, how elections could be held - as the peace in Afghanistan is linked to whole regional stability and also vital for Pakistan,” he added.

Offering his grief over Quetta blast, he said that it was an unfortunate incident. “The government wants to stop it to stop this bloodshed and loss of lives. It is the desire of public and the government is also determined to fulfill it,” he added.

About relations with India, the Prime Minister said he had discussed the issue of Line of Control during his US and UK visits.

He said India should have no objection to third party mediation on Kashmir issue in line with the aspirations of Kashmiri people.

“I have a realistic approach to the issue and if there is third party mediation, there should be no hesitation on part of India,” he added.

The Prime Minister said Indian stance on the issue offered no solution as it proved futile to resolve the issue, flaring three wars between the both neighbouring countries in the last 65 years.

Police declare Musharraf innocent in Ghazi murder case

ISLAMABAD: The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) of Islamabad Police, in its incomplete investigation report, has declared former President Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf innocent in the murder case of Abdul Rashid Ghazi and his mother during the Lal Masjid operation.

“Gen (retd) Musharraf was neither present on the scene during the Lal Masjid operation nor any evidence could be produced to prove that the accused ordered the operation, and, finally, the army is always called on with complete protection and Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf enjoyed protection as the army chief,” the JIT indicated in the investigation report.

The JIT, headed by DIG (Headquarters) Khalid Mehmood Khattak, comprised SSP (Headquarters) Sajid Kayani and SP (Sadr Zone) Jamil Hashmi. The sources said that Gen Musharraf was the co-accused and the main suspects were not nominated, or they were unidentified.

The JIT, in its report, said that no witness was presented before the investigation team who directly witnessed the incident of killing Ghazi or his mother. “At an early stage, Maulana Abdul Aziz had lodged a complaint with the Aabpara Police that his mother was missing during the Lal Masjid operation, but later, it was claimed that she was killed by the law enforcing agencies,” the people engaged in the investigation of the case, mentioning the report, said.

“Nine FIRs were lodged against the people of Lal Masjid on the allegation of killing of law enforcing agencies officials and other innocent people. All the cases against the Lal Masjid activists would become dormant if Musharraf was found guilty,” the sources said. “After their investigation, the police declared Musharraf innocent as there was no evidence or eyewitness presented against the former president,” the sources said.

The police authorities said that the former President Gen (retd) Musharraf has not been declared innocent; however, the JIT mentioned the points leading to the aspect that the accused was not involved in the murder of Ghazi and his mother. “The challan has been submitted to the court of law and the matter has been left to the court,” the sources maintained. “This is the prerogative of the court to declare the accused innocent or guilty,” the sources said.

Earlier, the Aabpara Police registered a case against Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf in the murder case of Ghazi Abdur Rashid and his mother on September 2, 2013, under sections 302/109 PPC (FIR No 325/13), on the orders of Islamabad High Court (IHC) judge Nurul Haq Qureshi.

Pervez Musharraf had categorically denied that he ordered ‘Operation Silence’ or any other military action against Lal Masjid and rejected the allegation of murder of Ghazi Rashid and his mother during questioning by the JIT, the report said.

NNI adds: Meanwhile, the police submitted a challan to a local court related to Abdul Rasheed Ghazi murder case and termed former president Pervez Musharraf as innocent. The challan stated that theevidence or eyewitness to support his allegations.Police, in its challan, has left the decision about the fate of Musharraf on the discretion of the court.

The challan had a copy of FIR against Abdul Rasheed Ghazi registered in 2007, while the challan also had the communication record of police, deputy commissioner, chief commissioner and the Home Ministry in regard with calling Army for Lal Masjid Operation.

Business Banking - What to look for when selecting a business bank account

Due to laziness alone, we often do our business banking with the same people our personal bank account is held with. If you shop around, you won’t get much of a better deal financially (rates and services are generally almost identical) but you will find banks who offer better service, better personnel and advice.
Business banking is very different to personal banking. To begin with, your choice of banks is different and much more limited than with your personal bank account. You won’t get the benefit of the new rash of internet banks- but the high street banks are becoming more competitive for your business custom. This is because business banking is where they usually make some money.

You should expect at least to get your first year’s business banking free (provided you remain in credit). Thereafter you’ll be expected to pay a fee per transaction, so factor that into your cost base. You should also expect access to a business banking advisor; who is there to help. Tales of woe abound about these people- plenty of business advisors never call you up except to try to sell you things like mortgages, but Barclays in particular is improving by having advisors who are specialists in particular businesses e.g. construction, technology etc.

You should also get some sort of credit- even if it’s a card you pay off each month. And before opening your account, see what overdraft and loan facilities are available- you may not need them now, but you should know what their attitude to lending is so you’ll be prepared when you need it.

Finally, you have some options that may not be immediately apparent. As you may not be in your branch so often, smaller regional banks may be preferable to the big high street banks. The Allied Irish Bank, for example, has an astonishing record for looking after its business banking customers, but might not have been on your list.

Verdict on Musharraf’s bail reserved in Abdul Rashid Ghazi case

ISLAMABAD: The court of Additional Sessions Judge, Wajid Ali has reserved judgment on the bail application of former president, General (retd) Pervez Musharraf in the murder case of Abdul Rashid Ghazi.

The court will announce its decision on November 1.

Earlier, the defence counsel in the case, Ilyas Siddiqui argued that the orders to conduct the Lal Masjid operation were not given by Musharraf. Siddqui said prior to the operation, people in Islamabad were being kidnapped. He added that the police file did not contain any order of the operation given by the former president.

According to the defence counsel, the Army had been summoned by the deputy commissioner Islamabad for the operation.

Egypt arrests Muslim Brotherhood leader

Cairo: A key figure in the Muslim Brotherhood was arrested after months on the run, Egypt’s Interior Ministry said.
The ministry said Essam el-Erian, the deputy leader of the Brotherhood’s political arm, the Freedom and Justice party, was apprehended in the early hours Wednesday in an apartment in an eastern Cairo suburb.
El-Erian is one of the few senior Brotherhood figures still on the run.
The media-savvy el-Erian was among the group’s more moderate figures but turned hard-line and went into hiding after the July 3 coup that ousted President Mohamed Morsi, who hails from the same group.
Egypt’s new, military-backed authorities have cracked down on the group, arresting hundreds of Brotherhood figures and putting top leaders on trial on charges of inciting violence and murder.

The CJ remarked that arms and weapons are in abundance in the entire country, and that we are on the brink of a volcano.

He continued saying that if all the agencies and the institutions unite, then not a single bullet can enter Karachi.

Justice Jawwad S Khawaja remarked that the agencies should realize their responsibilities instead of catching the Indian fishermen only. He further said that whatever is happening in the country currently, is sheer indifference towards the city and its citizens.

Personal Banking - Why banking has changed in your favour

These days personal banking is about choices- where to save, invest, borrow, or indeed where simply to put your monthly income. Even if you do nothing but pay in your salary, there is a massive differential in interest rates between best and worst performing banks (3000%- yes 3000%!). So shop around and you’ll save, or earn, a tidy sum.
Historically, personal banking meant having a bank account into which you put your salary, and an occasional visit to a mortgage lender (usually a different company) to keep your house on track. The banks were in the high street, and never competed very much for business. You also received little respect for your custom. Competition was stagnant to say the least.

Welcome, however, to a brave new world of personal banking; where a far larger number of companies are only too glad to compete for your business- and for a much bigger range of products. Today you probably have a credit card; you might want a loan for a car, and we all have far higher personal incomes; which means we want savings accounts and investments too. We bank on the high street, the internet, and by phone; and we use different companies for different jobs- you might borrow with a different company than the one you have a bank account with.

So the ethos of clever personal banking is to shop around- and never take “No” as the final answer- if you can’t get the savings, mortgage, credit card or insurance deal you want, chances are someone else can offer it to you. Despite this advice, 60% of people bank with the same company their whole life through, so get online and do some grafting- it could save you huge amounts of money for very little effort. You’re a customer now, not an inconvenience, and companies are hungry for your business.

UP minister bashed Rahul for maligning Muslims

Lucknow: UP minister Azam Khan hit out at Rahul Gandhi for his remarks that Pakistani agencies were in touch with some Muzaffarnagar riot victims, asking him to either prove his claim or withdraw the statement.
“Rahul Gandhi is speaking the language of RSS. He should either provide evidence for his allegations or immediately withdraw his statement,” Azam said at a gathering, which was also addressed by chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.
In a public rally at Indore in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh on October, Rahul had said that intelligence agencies in Pakistan were approaching some victims of Muzaffarnagar riots.
He had said he was told by an intelligence official that intelligence agencies of Pakistan had established contact with a group of 10-15Muslim youngsters, who had lost their kin in the riots. The Uttar Pradesh police had said it had no information about the claim but would verify it.
Azam also attacked RSS, alleging that the organization was trying to fan hatred against Muslim community by spreading false propaganda.
Admitting that there were several incidents of communal flare-up in the state during SP rule, Azam, however, said “people should understand” that fascist forces, which cannot digest existence of a secular government, were behind them.
“There were very few communal flare ups during regimes led by BJP and also the BSP, because the fascist forces were not interested in destabilising these governments,” he added.
Azam said the people, however, understand that the country can never be run successfully by a political party which does not accept the concept of religious pluralism.
Azam also alleged that Congress was not serious regarding the restoration of the minority character for AMU.
“If they were serious, they would have introduced a bill in Parliament in this regard,” he said.

Imran Khan challenges NAB chief’s appointment

Islamabad: Chief of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has filed a constitutional petition at the Supreme Court, challenging Qamar Zaman Chaudhry’s appointment as Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The PTI chief, in his petition, stated that the high-level appointment is illegal which the apex court should declare null and void.
Khan, making the federal government and NAB chief Qamar Zaman Chaudhry parties in the petition, stated that Chaudhry was serving as Secretary Interior Ministry when he was appointed head of the NAB.
“It is, therefore, a violation of Article 6 of the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) under which a serving officer could not be hired as Chairman NAB.”
The petition further argued that legal procedure of consultation was also not followed by the government in the appointment of Qamar Zaman Chaudhry and that he was a ‘blue-eyed’ of the former dictator General Ziaul Haq and then later became ‘loyal to the PPP leadership’.
The PTI chief opposed Chaudhry’s appointment also on the ground that he was served contempt of court notice which disqualifies him for the top NAB slot.

Investment Bank - What to do when a savings account just isn’t enough for your spare cash!

What to do when a savings account just isn’t enough for your spare cash!
Investment banks don’t do current accounts- they make your savings work harder (usually you need £10,000 or so to start). When choosing an investment bank, ask about their past performance for clients, what breadth of investments they operate and specialise in, and what sort of personal service they can offer you.
An investment bank is usually a smaller, specialist company than your traditional high street bank, although they do investment banking too. Your high street bank however is primarily geared to day-to-day banking; cheques going in and out, paying those bills, and offering credit and insurance. An investment bank doesn’t lend anything- it’s geared up for one specific purpose: to take your spare money, and turn it into more money.

As such, investment accounts don’t offer easy access to your cash, or a cashcard- the whole point is to leave the money for a long time and let it work for you. Often you won’t even get a chequebook, and your money is only accessible after asking in writing. An investment bank often adds offshore services (specifically tax avoidance) and private banking to the suite of products, and often the terms are interchangeable.

Be aware though that the job of an investment bank is to advise you on what to do. Expect a level of personal service. Don’t confuse this with investment trusts- which are just one of the many investments open to you. The bank is not a product in itself; it will take your money and invest it, as wisely as possible, into usually a multitude of different investment vehicles. However, you need to know that it is very, very rare that you get any compensation if the market goes down and you lose money. Compensation is almost exclusively confined to cases where clear negligence of illegal activity has occurred. Today, with the markets low and flat, opinion is divided- some say a recovery is on the way and we should invest; others say it’s time for the safe bet of putting your money into bonds. A good investment bank will advise you on precisely such issues.

‘Narendra Modi cannot lead India effectively’

New York: Pointing out that over 1,000 people, mostly Muslims, were killed in 2002 in the Indian State of Gujarat under his watch, Narendra Modi, who was the State’s chief minister and now opposition BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, cannot hope to lead India effectively if he inspires “fear” and “antipathy” among many of its people, the New York Times said in an editorial published on Oct 26.
“His rise to power is deeply troubling to many Indians, especially the country’s 138 million Muslims and its many other minorities,” the Editorial Board of the New York Times said in an editorial on the Hindu nationalist leader.
“Mr Modi has shown no ability to work with opposition parties or tolerate dissent, the editorial said, noting that he has already alienated BJP’s political partners” when Janata Dal (United), “an important regional party broke off its 17-year alliance with the party because it found Mr Modi unacceptable”.
“India is a country with multiple religions, more than a dozen major languages and numerous ethnic groups and tribes. Mr Modi cannot hope to lead it effectively if he inspires fear and antipathy among many of its people,” said the editorial, which also questioned Modi’s economic track record in Gujarat.
The “economic record in Gujarat is not entirely admirable, either,” it said. “Muslims in Gujarat, for instance, are much more likely to be poor than Muslims in India as a whole, even though the state has a lower poverty rate than the country,” the editorial said.
The Times said,”Supporters of Mr Modi argue that an investigation commissioned by India’s Supreme Court cleared him of wrongdoing in the riots.
And they insist that Mr Modi, who is widely admired by middle-class Indians for making Gujarat one of India’s fastest-growing states, can revive the economy, which has been weakened by a decade of mismanagement by the coalition government headed by the Indian National Congress Party.
“There is no question that the Congress Party has failed to capitalise on the economic growth of recent years to invest in infrastructure, education and public institutions like the judiciary. And instead of trying to revive itself with new ideas and leaders, it is likely to be led in the coming election by Rahul Gandhi, the inexperienced scion of the Nehru-Gandhi family.
But Mr Modi’s strident Hindu nationalism has fuelled public outrage.”

‘Nawaz assured US to review Afridi case’

Washington: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has assured US lawmakers that he will reconsider the case of Dr Shakil Afridi, the jailed Pakistani doctor who helped the CIA track Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, Fox news channel reported.
Fox News reported that Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs Representative Ed Royce together with Robert Lorsch of the Free Afridi Campaign “heavily pressured” the Pakistani leadership about releasing the doctor and allowing him a life in the US, it said.
The report claimed what some Pakistani journalists witnessed on Oct 22, when the prime minister briefed the committee’s members on this and other issues at the Rayburn office building on the Hill.
Mr Sharif more or less repeated the speech he delivered at the US Institute of Peace earlier in the day, making a passionate appeal to US lawmakers to reengage with Pakistan. Perhaps to appease the lawmakers, the prime minister omitted the appeal that he made at the institute to end the drone strikes.
The omission, however, had little impact on the lawmakers who had not come to the meeting to humour the Pakistani prime minister. As soon as Mr Sharif ended his speech, the lawmakers unleashed a barrage of critical comments and questions and they did so in such a harsh and unfriendly tone that surprised the Pakistani delegation.
They blamed Pakistan for allegedly sending its “troops, not just the Taliban” for attacking US soldiers in Afghanistan. They accused Pakistan of “patronising” cross-border terrorism in Afghanistan and for “sending terrorists” into India to “kill Indian civilians”.
Pakistan was also blamed for nurturing Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jamaatud Dawa and for “allowing” Hafiz Saeed to “operate freely” and launch cross-border attacks into India.
Some lawmakers blamed Pakistan for killing Baloch civilians and for suppressing Baloch and Sindhi languages and cultures too.
Others mentioned Pakistan’s failure to try the Mumbai terror suspects and urged Mr Sharif to start the trial as soon as possible.
“The attack was so severe and was delivered with so much ferocity that it surprised the prime minister and he often had to be helped by his aides,” said a witness.
What Mr Lorsch, a Los Angeles entrepreneur and philanthropist, said in his interview to Fox News confirmed these eyewitness accounts. Mr Lorsch attended “a carefully stage-managed” private meeting between Mr Sharif and senior US lawmakers in Washington last week and participated in this supposedly “friendly exchange of views” between the prime minister and US lawmakers.
Mr Lorsch and the lawmakers had brought so much pressure on Mr Sharif that he pledged a legal review of the Shakil Afridi case, Fox News reported.
“My message to them was: ‘What they do with Dr Afridi is how Pakistan will be judged as a democracy by the rest of the world’,” Mr Lorsch said.
The tight-knit gathering, which included Pakistan’s national security adviser Sartaj Aziz and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, had not been previously announced to the somewhat surprised Pakistani delegation, the report said.
The meeting lasted around 25 minutes in a side-room immediately prior to the dinner hosted by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, it said.
“This was first time that the leadership in Pakistan realised the importance of Dr Afridi not as a political bargaining tool but as a symbol of how freedom-loving American people regard Pakistan,” Mr Lorsch said.

PESHAWAR: Senator Azam Hoti alleged Monday that Awami National Party (ANP) leaders Asfandyar Wali Khan and Afrasiab Khattak had a secret agreement with the US. “Approximately $35 million was taken from the US as part of this agreement.”

During a news conference, Hoti said the ANP leaders had disappeared for ten days in the US; however he added that he had no proof for these allegations. “Information about the ANP leaders was given by US residents.”

According to Hoti the agreement was concerned with the Taliban and also involved an Arab country.

Hoti also called Afrasiab Khattak a thief who along with Asfandyar Wali Khan had destroyed the ANP.

Earlier this month, the ANP expelled Azam Khan Hoti from the party on grounds of violating party discipline by demanding the resignation of Asfandyar Wali and Afrasiab Khattak.

ANP Response

ANP leader Senator Zahid Khan in reaction to the press conference said Hoti himself had admitted that there was no proof to these allegations.

“We were in government during the last five years, why were these allegations not leveled then?”

Khan added that Asfandyar Wali Khan was a hero for the Pakhtun people. He further said that an official reaction to the press conference would be given after two days. “There has been a conspiracy against our leadership in every era.”

Could you cope financially in a crisis?

How good is your safety net? Or, to ask the question another way, how would you manage financially if you were no longer earning?
The question confronts millions of us facing the risk of being forced off work for a protracted period through illness or injury.
And the possibility of redundancy also looms large for many employees in these tough economic times.
It is tempting to think we could rely on our employer for support, dip into savings to tide us over, or even fall back on State benefits.
But even the most generous firms do not have bottomless pockets, and few of us boast sufficient reserves to sustain ourselves beyond a few weeks or months.
As far as State benefits are concerned, even if you are entitled to anything, you certainly won't get enough to make a big dent in your monthly bills.
Income protection insurance is designed to provide a safety net by paying out if you can't work. The cover comes in various forms, so here's a run-through of what's available.

Short term income protection

You can buy a policy that provides accident, sickness and unemployment (ASU) cover, usually for a period of 12 or 24 months.
As the name suggests, the policy pays out an agreed amount each month if you are unable to earn because of injury, illness or you have been made redundant.
Demand for this sort of insurance tends to increase during tough economic times as people take action to protect their financial wellbeing.
MoneySupermarket has launched a short term income protection insurance channel designed to provide information and to help people buy this sort of cover online.
As with any form of insurance, there are various terms and conditions to watch out for when comparing ASU policies. These are the most common:
  • Policies only pay out for a specified period of, say, 12 or 24 months
  • You may have to be off work for a set amount of time - 30 days, perhaps - before payments will begin. The policy may specify a longer waiting period for claims due to unemployment.
  • You will only get unemployment cover if there is no actual threat of unemployment when you buy your policy
  • The policy might exclude any claims associated with pre-existing medical conditions
  • The cost will be determined by the amount of cover you select, the 'waiting time' before payments start, and the length of time payments will be made.
The policy will state a minimum waiting time but you can reduce the premium by opting for a longer delay before payments start - perhaps you are proceeding on the basis that your savings will suffice for two or three months, or you may have a particularly generous employer.
A further option is a "back to day one" approach. This is more expensive but actually pays for all the time you are unable to earn, right back to the first day of absence from work.
However, you would still need to be away from work for the full length of the waiting period before you could claim, at which point the first payment would be backdated.

Payment Protection Insurance

Payment protection insurance (PPI) is a form of ASU protection taken out to cover the repayments on a loan or credit card.
There has been a lot of negative coverage of PPI in recent years, the problem being that it was sold to people who didn't need it, weren't eligible to take it out, or weren't even aware they were buying it from their lender or card provider.
However, the product itself can provide valuable protection if you are worried about meeting your repayments if a problem arises.
It is important, as always, to shop around for the best policy rather than simply opt for the cover offered by your lender.
Rules introduced in the wake of the PPI mis-selling scandal actually prohibit lenders from making any attempt to sell PPI until seven days after the loan or credit product has been arranged.
And a credit provider cannot make PPI a condition of the loan itself.
This means you can avoid any hard-sell tactics and take the opportunity to see what the wider market has to offer via a comparison service such as MoneySupermarket.

Mortgage payment protection insurance

Mortgage payment protection insurance (MPPI) does what its name implies - it covers your mortgage repayments while you're not earning because of accident, sickness or unemployment.
If you arrange a policy alongside your mortgage or another line of credit in mind, remember the insurer will make the pay-out to you, not direct to the lender or other financial institution.
So it remains your responsibility to settle the repayments.

Long term income protection

You can buy income protection for the long term - these policies run until the date you specify - which might coincide with your intended retirement or the date when you are due to clear your mortgage.
One of the main differences between this form of income protection and short term ASU is that unemployment cover is not provided - you can only make a claim if you are prevented from working by illness or injury.
The more expensive form of income protection cover is arranged on an 'own occupation' basis.
This means it will pay out if you cannot complete the tasks associated with your current job.
The cheaper option has less generous 'any occupation' cover, which means it won't pay out so long as you are able to do some kind of work.
So, for instance, if you were prevented by stress from working as a company executive and had 'any occupation' cover, you might not receive a pay-out on the basis that you could take a less stressful job elsewhere in the company, or even with another employer.
There are a number of other complexities associated with income protection cover - for example, you can only insure a portion of your salary (usually what you earn less tax and National Insurance) because it is illegal to use insurance to profit from a misfortune.
For this reason MoneySupermarket does not offer an online comparison service.
Instead, we have a team of expert advisers who can provide free, impartial advice and compare all income protection insurance providers to identify the best deal for you. They're available on 0800 1422013.

Help from your employer

When calculating how much short or long term protection to buy, factor in what you might get from your employer if you were made redundant or were signed-off sick for any length of time.
If you are made redundant you should be entitled to statutory redundancy pay if you have worked for your employer for at least two years.
The amount you are entitled to will be based on your weekly pay, age and continuous employment with your employer. You can work out your potential entitlement here.
Your employer may offer you a redundancy payment on top of this - you should have details in your employment contract.
As far as sick pay is concerned, employees who are unable to work because of illness or injury may be able to get Statutory Sick Pay (SSP).
It is paid by the employer for up to 28 weeks at a weekly rate of £85.85 a week, although some firms have their own sick pay schemes - you should have been given literature detailing the benefits to which you are entitled. For more details on SSP visit here.
Emma Walker, MoneySupermarket's protection expert, said of the new ASU channel: "At a time when finances are stretched but unemployment is rising, it is important to consider your protection needs because many financial problems can be put down to a sudden change in circumstances.
"By providing a transparent and streamlined service we have removed the monotony and time constraints often associated with purchasing ASU cover, especially online.
"The payment protection insurance mis-selling scandal has left many consumers without suitable financial security, but for only a few pounds a month, you can have the peace of mind that should you have an accident, become ill or lose your job, your financial needs will be met."

Blasts in Indian city ahead of Narendra Modi rally

New Delhi: At least six crude bombs exploded near a public ground in an eastern Indian city on Sunday where tens of thousands of people were gathered to hear opposition prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi speak, police said.
One man was killed and five people were wounded in the blasts that occurred shortly before Modi arrived in Patna to launch the campaign in the big heartland state of Bihar for next next summer’s national election, CNN-IBN reported.
An officer in the police control room said there were reports of people suffering injuries. “There are reports of six blasts near Gandhi Maidan (the venue of the rally). There was one explosion at the railway station in the morning. All the blasts are of low intensity,” he told Reuters by telephone.
“Some people are injured. They are being treated at the Patna Medical College Hospital.”
It was the first outbreak of violence since Modi, the challenger from the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party, launched an aggressive campaign to oust the ruling Congress-led coalition in the election which must be held by May.
Critics say Modi, the three-time chief minister of western Gujarat, is pursuing a partisan agenda and accuse him of turning a blind eye to attacks on Muslims in 2002 in his state. Modi denies the allegations and the Supreme Court has cleared him of any responsibility.
Sunday’s massive rally was intended as a show of strength in Bihar where the governing party broke off a 17-year alliance with the BJP after it picked Modi as its candidate to lead the party, saying the nation’s leader should enjoy the confidence of all sections of society.
Tens of thousands of BJP supporters, waving the party’s saffron flag, streamed into the city in buses and special trains.
“Police were on high alert ahead of this rally. We had imposed restrictions on movement of vehicles near the rally ground,” a police officer said. “There has been no lapse on the part of administration. However, it is very difficult to manage such a big crowd.”

Internet Bank - An analysis of the explosion in internet banking facilities in the UK

An analysis of the explosion in internet banking facilities in the UK.
In three years, use of internet bank accounts has increased ten-fold, as services become accessible to ordinary people and not just tech-savvy computer nerds. Simplicity, convenience and the wealth of online-only deals and offers are all reasons we’re parking the car and going online to bank.
The development of internet bank accounts and online banking has been startling. In 1995 there were no online banks. The number of personal accounts accessed by computer increased by nearly 50 per cent in 2002 to almost 13 million, a ten-fold increase on the number just three years before.

There are several good reasons for this. Firstly, there is a totally new breed of internet bank- operations not tied to the existing banks (although many are now operated by large banking organisations); these have offered completely new bank accounts and services you couldn’t get before. This has attracted entirely new customers to banking and improved customer choice for existing customers.

Secondly, more people are hooked up to the internet than ever before- this ties in with better security and evaluation of security for internet bank operations. We now feel relatively safe passing credit card details and accessing our private accounts online.

Thirdly, even where internet bank accounts are just an extension of high street accounts, we’re beginning to appreciate the convenience and reduced cost of banking online (even it just means not paying for parking in our high streets- where trade is rapidly dwindling in all retail sectors). In the next five years, expect online banking to improve further, so that the full range of banking products (and even face-to-face meetings with your manager) can happen in the online environment.
