Karachi mall fire put out; no casualties reported


KARACHI: After a firefight that continued for hours, the firefighters succeeded in extinguishing the blaze that broke out in a shopping mall near Dalmia road here on Wednesday. They also managed to evacuate the building, Geo News reported.

According to sources, the fire broke out inside the storage area of a shoe retailer. The fire quickly spread to the surrounding shops. Due to the heavy smoke some shoppers fell unconscious and were evacuated with the help of rescue team and volunteers, including shop keepers and area residents.

Taking advantage of the commotion, some miscreants tried to commit loot and plunder. Police resorted to aerial firing to disperse a large crowd that gathered outside the mall which the miscreants used to their advantage.

Human Chain

Following the aerial firing by law enforcers, shopkeepers joined hands to form a human chain barring unnecessary personnel from entering the mall premises.

As yet no estimates have been made regarding the loss and damage to property caused by the fire.
