Election Commission suspends membership of 26 lawmakers


ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended the membership of 26 lawmakers over failure to submit details regarding their assets.

Among those suspended include, Senators Mustafa Kamal from the MQM and Faisal Reza Abidi from PPP, three members of National Assembly, four Punjab Assembly members, one from Balochistan, seven from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and nine from Sindh.

According to the ECP, the membership of the lawmakers will be restored once they have satisfied the commission regarding their assets.

The original deadline of October 15 to submit asset details had been extended due to Eidul Azha holidays in the country. According to the Representation of People Act 1976, all elected representatives need to declare their asset details annually on September 30.
